Getting to know the course

As an engineering student you will develop your knowledge and skills by solving and analysing real-world problems, using real-world methods and techniques. The course has been designed by our teachers who have a long and extensive history working in the engineering industry and in the teaching profession. At AIAS, our courses are designed to challenge and engage our students.

In this course you will learn a balance of practical skills and the supporting theoretical frameworks. For our graduates this means that you not only gain an in-demand skillset, but a sound understanding of the foundational engineering principles required of mechanical engineers.

You will gain valuable experience working in teams, managing a variety of projects, drafting using CAD software, analysing structures and processes, and applying theoretical knowledge to real-world problems. Our aim is to provide you with a useful and in-demand skillset, and the experience and confidence you need to manage the roles and responsibilities of an engineer.

Graduates of the Advanced Diploma of Engineering are equipped with the skills to work in technical positions within engineering companies as part of teams, using a variety of software (Inventor, AutoCAD, Revit, Vertex and more), applying theoretical knowledge, and working according to industry standards; the course also caters for a smooth transition into further studies.

Overview

Throughout this course you will develop a good, practical understanding of the variety of activities, roles and responsibilities expected to be performed by a Mechanical / Civil Structural Engineer including:

  • Mathematics principles and techniques in engineering - So you can use these necessary and foundational skills as the basis for solving real-world challenges
  • Materials Science - So you can select materials that last longer, are better value, increase safety, and are especially suited for the application
  • Thermodynamics, Statics and Dynamics - So you can predict how systems will behave, how much force it takes to accelerate or stop an object, and how fluids and gases will behave when pumped through pipes or used for cooling and heating
  • Stress Calculations - So you can design safe structures, bridges, houses and more; and realise these in software like Vertex
  • Drafting, including 2D & 3D CAD - So you can produce drawings and models that will be used to manufacture products, build houses, form evacuation plans, create 3D prints and prototypes and much more.
  • Project management- So you can effectively work with a team, meet deadlines, and manage yourself and others to complete major projects
  • Roles and responsibilities of professional engineers - So you can understand and be practiced in the tasks, skills and activities performed by professional engineers
  • Sustainability - So you can help build a better world, and be apart of the solutions we need for a sustainable, healthy and prosperous society and environment
